Department of Road and Bridge Engineering

In the 53 years of educational history, the department has accumulated rich professional heritage, sharp professional school characteristics. We have six specialties. There are roads and bridges Engineering technology (highway project supervision direction, highway engineering test detection), highway maintenance and management (highway maintenance technical direction), the project cost (road direction), underground works and tunnel engineering, urban railway transit Engineering Technology. Among them, road and bridge engineering technology set up in 1958, is the one of the first backbone professional in GZPCC. In 2002, it was approved as "the Department of Higher Vocational Education Reform ". In 2007, it was selected as the national-demonstration vocational education specialty built.

Curriculum: The curriculum is divided into existing professional foundation and professional skills training in two phases. Corresponding to road, bridges and rail construction, the implementation of the basic teaching process is to emphasis not only in the theory but also in practical training. Meantime, combined with internships, integration of professional certification courses and vocational practical training has developed a comprehensive courses system. In the teaching processing of core course, to improve the quality of teaching, we actively cooperate with industry and enterprises to involve into employment-oriented training programs that train qualified skilled students as a fundamental task.  With the order of cognitive and rational integration, we design the courses in the curriculum framework based on the curriculum and teaching standards.

Teaching Team: The entire department faculty is strong and "double-profession" teaching team. The total professional teachers have 128, of which 13 are master degree, one is Ph D., college and higher education teachers reach 93%. Department has 29 senior professional titles (professor, associate professor), 38 senior lecturers, 16 junior lecturers, 10 full-time training instructors. The "double-profession" teachers account for 91% of full-time teachers. Meanwhile we employ more than 10 senior experts from outside industry to the department as the visiting professor, which ensures our professional education with the times and industry simultaneously.

Practice bases: Department of Roads and Bridges Engineering has established the excellent internal and external practice bases. Through internal and external training bases, students study in a real work environment. Relying on the existing mapping and survey training center which trains students’ capabilities in civil engineering mapping and survey, engineering design and detection, department has fully built a professional group of students to meet highway construction of simulation. Outside the school, to ensure that students have more opportunities and exposure to actual work, we make full use of community resources to strengthen cooperation with enterprises, such as Guizhou Provincial Highway Corporation, Guizhou Bridge Engineering Corporation, Guizhou Road and Bridge Corporation, Guizhou Province Highway Survey and Design Institute, Guizhou Provincial Institute of Science, Guizhou Lu Tong Management Company, Guizhou Engineering Quality Control Center of Testing Traffic Safety, Guizhou Highway Maintenance Center, Guizhou Provincial Cost Management Station of Construction Engineering and other enterprises and schools. Cooperation of department and enterprises has built the stable training bases for off-campus internships for more than 20 years. Relying on off-campus practice bases, students have learned gradually professional knowledge integrated into the professional working positions, and achieved actual working process to be successful.

Introduction of Specialties

 

1Road and Bridge Engineering Technology

Road and Bridge Engineering Technology include highway and bridge engineering and computerized road engineering two directions.

Highway and Bridge Engineering Direction

Highway and bridge engineering is the first profession started and is state-demonstration specialty built.

Training Objectives: Training high-quality skilled personnel with an amount of expertise and teamwork and hard-working spirit in road and bridge civil survey and engineering, mountain road construction and mapping capabilities.

Main courses: main courses in school are: mathematics, foreign languages, engineering mechanics, highway construction survey, engineering drawing and computer graphics, and testing and detection of road construction materials, highway engineering geology, road survey technology, roadbed construction technology, bridge construction technology, pavement construction, road construction costs, highway construction supervision, etc.

Employment orientation: Graduates mainly for professional and technical work of survey, mapping, and construction of road and highway construction.

2Computerized Road Engineering Direction

Training Objectives: Training high-quality skilled personnel to master the basics ability of highway computerized projects, with a basic algorithm analysis, design skills and programming skills, special proficiency in using popular CAD software.

Main courses: main courses in school are: introduction to computer science, VB language, C language programming, office software and text entry, multi-media software applications, network and e-commerce, database use, highway design, bridge construction, traffic engineering, construction management, highways and other popular CAD systems.

Employment orientation: Graduates primarily for highway computer-related construction, design, supervision and management work.

3Road Construction Supervision

Road Construction Supervision includes Highway Construction Supervision, Highway Engineering of test and inspection two directions.

1Highway Construction Supervision direction

Training objectives: to train high-quality skilled personnel, with proficiency in a variety of engineering and engineering test equipment and test FIDIC ability, in road construction, bridge construction, tunnel, traffic engineering construction.

Main courses: main courses in school are: advanced mathematics, college English, engineering map, soil and construction materials, geotechnical and foundation engineering geology, highway construction project management, highway construction costs, highway engineering, bridge engineering, engineering surveying, traffic engineering, highway tunnels, highway construction inspection technology, engineering quality supervision, supervision of project progress, project costs and supervision, contract management, information management, road construction regulations and FIDIC terms.

Employment orientation: Graduates major working in the relevant professional and technical working position in highway construction and supervision enterprises.

Highway Engineering of test and inspection direction

Training objectives: to train high-quality skilled personnel with proficiency in a variety of engineering and engineering test equipment used in road construction, bridge construction, tunnel, traffic engineering.

Main courses: main courses in school are: advanced mathematics, college English, engineering map, soil and construction materials, geotechnical and engineering geology, engineering mechanics, highway engineering, bridge engineering, engineering survey, roadbed detection technology, quality supervision, bridge engineering detection technology, tunnel construction and testing technology, traffic engineering facilities detection technology, linear detection technology, road geometry, road construction and maintenance, introduction to road construction regulations, laboratory construction and management.

Employment orientation: Graduates mainly for relevant professional and technical work of test and detection of road construction, bridge construction, tunnel and traffic engineering.

2Highway Maintenance and Management

Training Objectives: To train high quality skilled personnel to master the highway maintenance, management and reinforcement, be familiar with the basic skills of engineering survey and construction, understanding traffic laws and regulations.

Main courses: main courses in school are: mathematics, foreign languages, engineering maps, engineering survey, engineering mechanics, road construction materials, bridge engineering, highway Engineering detection technology, highway facilities, road construction regulations overview, environmental protection and highway landscaping, maintenance and reinforcement of bridge construction, road maintenance projects, highway damage analysis and control, cement and concrete pavement technologies, highway maintenance techniques and management.

Employment orientation: Graduates mainly working in highway maintenance center for all levels positions engaged in highway monitoring, maintenance, reinforcement and other technical work.

4Construction Cost (road direction)

Training Objectives: training high quality skilled personnel to master the cost control and management of roads and bridges construction, project management, project evaluation, project preparation and project bidding

Main courses: main courses in school are: mathematics, foreign languages, engineering maps, engineering surveying, road building material, highway engineering, bridge engineering, building technology, economics, highway project cost and management, project evaluation, principles of project cost, highway construction bidding, transport economics, road and bridge detection technology, highway management.

Employment orientation: Graduates mainly for cost control and management positions of roads and bridges construction sector, construction companies, investment companies, engineering consulting firm, supervision and other departments engaged in project development, project evaluation, investment control, project cost management, project bidding, construction consulting and supervision.

5Underground and Tunnel Engineering

Training Objectives: training high-quality skilled personnel with an amount of underground and tunnel engineering expertise as we as strong mountain road and tunnel survey, mapping and construction capabilities, be a teamwork and hard-working member.

Main courses: main courses in school are: mathematics, foreign languages, engineering drawing, road materials, rock mechanics, soil and soil mechanics, engineering geology and hydrology, engineering structures, pavement Engineering, tunnel survey and design, tunnel blasting, tunnel construction technology, tunnel detection, tunnel operation and management, basic electrical and electronic technology, urban roads, mechanical and electrical facility.

Employment orientation: Graduates mainly for relevant professional and technical work of underground and tunnel engineering projects as well as municipal subway engineering construction.

 

6Urban Railway Transit Engineering

Training objectives: training high quality skilled personnel to master the design, construction and maintenance of city urban rail lines and other infrastructure with city urban rail transport survey, mapping, construction and testing capabilities.

Main courses: five construction-based courses include engineering mechanics, rail traffic engineering measurements, engineering drawing and computer graphics, road testing and materials, engineering geology, five professional courses include urban rail transit technology, metro rail line design, elevated structure, urban railway line construction and maintenance, underground railroad, two vocational ability development programs are railway project budget, underground construction monitoring technology.

Employment orientation: graduates mainly for construction of urban railway transit, urban railway inspection, railway operations management and other related professional and technical working position.
