Recently, the Sino-Foreign Student Calligraphy Cultural Exchange Event, hosted by the School of International Education and co-organized by the University Foreign Language Association and the Jiaoyu Calligraphy and Painting Association, was successfully concluded. Using Chinese characters as a medium and the brush and ink as a bridge, the event brought together Chinese and international students for a cultural rendezvous. Through immersive experiences, participants were able to appreciate the profound heritage of Chinese culture, further enriching an open, diverse, and ever-evolving campus cultural ecology.

The event venue was elegantly arranged, with the Four Treasures of the Study — brush, ink, paper, and inkstone — tastefully displayed, and the gentle scent of ink filling the air. Teacher Shi Aihua delivered a lecture on hard-tip calligraphy, combining professional rigor with accessible explanations to introduce the fundamentals of calligraphy. He patiently guided each student in refining their writing skills and grasping the essence of the art. Members of the Jiaoyu Calligraphy and Painting Association demonstrated core techniques such as brush holding, stroke execution, and ink application, meticulously analyzing the structural rhythm and aesthetic essence of Chinese characters to help participants quickly get started and deepen their understanding. Members of the Foreign Language Association provided translation and communication support throughout the event, building a solid bridge for smooth interaction and collaborative learning between Chinese and international students.

The participating students displayed great enthusiasm and dedication, immersing themselves in the practice of wielding the brush, moistening the rice paper, and carefully copying calligraphy. Between every horizontal and vertical stroke, they savored the formal beauty and cultural depth of Chinese characters, perpetuating the Chinese cultural tradition through the flow of ink. As the Year of the Horse approaches, students enthusiastically wrote auspicious phrases such as "Lead the Way," "Strive Forward," and "National Peace and Prosperity," conveying their sentiments through calligraphy and their hopes through the fragrance of books. These expressions not only carried their best wishes for the Year of the Horse but also deepened their understanding and appreciation of Chinese calligraphy culture through immersive experience. The atmosphere was both solemn and vibrant, as students enhanced their friendship through exchanges, shared in the fragrance of books, and gained insight into the cultural tradition together.

This calligraphy cultural exchange event serves not only as a concrete initiative to enrich campus cultural life and promote traditional Chinese culture at our university, but also as a vivid practice of building a platform for cross-cultural mutual learning and showcasing the university’s cultural soft power. In the future, the university will continue to deepen its commitment to the concept of cultural education, creating more cultural exchange activities of depth and elegance, effectively telling the story of China and spreading the voice of China, and striving to elevate campus culture to new heights.
